Voodoo Story – Human Race
Human Race is the next big single from French stadium rock band Voodoo Story. Originally written following the Charlie Hebdo attack in mid January, 2015, the song is a response to the feeling of indignation and frustration of the current political climate. The song itself, however, is a message of hope, peace, and unity. The band began recording in November of 2015, when they then learned of the series of attacks carried out in Paris, including the infamous attack at the Bataclan theatre. While mourning their fellow countrymen, this invigorated them to push forward, and made their message more pertinent than ever. This idea is further expressed in the visual film accompanying the song. We must dismantle all of these machines of war and build something to help humanity, and raise it higher.
Human Race was written in collaboration with Chinese producer UJ He, and the song was recorded and produced entirely in China. Voodoo Story’s original sound, a mix of 70s rock and contemporary electronic enhancements, guided by UJ’s musical knowledge and intuition, results in a soft but powerful song that would fit in just as well with the feelings of social unrest during the Vietnam War as it does today; and its message is clear: even when we feel at our lowest, we must pick each other up and work together towards a better future.
