Tobin Mueller – WINDOWSHADE (Radio Edit) (Official Music Video)

Hip, sexy, funk ladened jazz groove from Tobin Mueller’s latest album, “What Survives – Radio Edits”, featuring the sax work of L.A. musician Woody Mankowski.

Full of trippy visuals, the music video takes you on a journeying the stage show “Creature”, based non the Frankenstein story. But don’t let that fool you. The music is driving, contemporary, a perfect fusion of funk and jazz.

“One of the freshest and most sheerly entertaining, intriguing and exciting recordings I’ve come across. The product of Tobin Mueller’s kaleidoscopic mind. Highly recommended.” – Brad Walseth, Jazz Chicago

“‘Windowshade’ is one of my favorites of Tobin’s pieces. Technically a duet (two performers), it goes above and beyond with Mueller playing all vintage keyboards and Mankowski playing a variety of saxes. Funky and fun, I dare you to keep your feet from tapping!” – Kathy Parsons, MainlyPiano

The uncut original recording of “Windowshade” ran 8:26. For the new album, it was remastered and edited down to 6:20 to accommodate radio play. The long play version is on “What Survives (Volume 2)”. The edited version is on “What Survives (Radio Edits)”.

“Tobin Mueller works like a mad scientist, like Dr. Frankenstein himself. His music is filled with lyricism and reflection, invention and new creation. With fellow lab partners, he puts on goggles and gives new allure to what began as a Broadway show but ended up a Jazz Masterpiece.” – George W. Harris, Jazz Weekly

Mueller & Mankowski have collaborated on the following albums: “Come In Funky” (feat. Ron Carter); “The Muller’s Wheel”, “Standard Deviations” and now “What Survives”. Mankowski has also been featured on tracks included in Mueller’s albums “If I Could Live Long Enough”, “Song of Myself”, and “A Bit of Light”.

“These radio edits captures at its zenith Mueller’s genius ability to dance in and out of motifs and themes, grooves and genres. They are recordings definite belonging in the ‘what survives’ category. Expansive, beautiful and awesome…” – John LaMantia, Downbeat Magazine

“Mueller’s jazz style merges contemporary, progressive, big band, fusion, standard and funk, giving this collection a lively, upbeat feel. The combination of acoustic and electric instruments adds to the variety, energy, and sheer delight of the album. The recording has a vibrant club-like ambiance, and the extended play is an added bonus.” – Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold, Fanfare Magazine
